Hello friends! Thanks for visiting our site and for your interest in our lives and ministry! You may know that a couple years ago, we moved from metro Atlanta, (which had been my home for nearly 20 years) about an hour east to Athens, site of the University of Georgia, and Allie’s childhood home!
Our hope and reason for coming here was to establish a gospel-centered church that would serve the city and university community, and minister cross-culturally, representing the beautiful reality of Jesus uniquely in our time and place. Our work has taken a couple different forms in these few years, and we’ve experienced a few ups and downs as we steadily moved toward the goal, but we’re now finally on the cusp of launching our plant in January, “Union Athens!”
In my many years in ministry in Atlanta, I got to be a part of one of the top church-planting-churches in America. I’ve helped church planters with their music, with discipleship and small groups, vision and strategic planning, etc. One of the things I watched each of them do, in order to have a solid base for decades of ministry, was to raise funds for their first few years of operating expenses.
Sort of like a business startup raising venture capital, a plant has to have people who believe in the mission and invest up front, so that the little congregation has the opportunity to grow into a healthy, and self-sustaining church.
We have been given a great head start in this! Union Athens has been awarded a grant, matching all gifts up to $75,000, which will allow us to move forward into our calling to see the whole of Athens made whole by the good news of Jesus!
We know that this season in particular is a moment when a lot of folks are thinking about gifts to ministries and non-profits that are important to them. I’d love for you to consider us in your end-of-year giving and help us leverage the full amount of this grant for God’s kingdom purposes! Of course, if you’re not seeing this until 2025, we will still have the matching grant, and still would love your financial partnership to help bring the gospel to our community!
